The Carers NZ Walk for Wellbeing: Porto in Portugal to Santiago, Spain, then on to Cape Finisterre ... The End of the World
Join our group of family carers for 30 minutes of time out each day from 2 - 16 May!
As we made my bookings last night, things started falling into place, and something which seemed a long way off is coming to fruition.
Work commitments are tying in nicely and obstacles are falling away.
Being a long haul flight attendant has its problems, but rostering-wise this walk fitted in well with my holidays, which were booked several months ago (my wife Julie and her friend Melanie were meant to be holidaying together in Europe but have reneged until later in the year).
It’s sheer coincidence that, where we’ll begin our walk, is in that space!
I am conscious now of having to keep the heart rate ticking over to complete the walk, but I’m not too concerned as I often have a swim or bike ride or walk James around the block in his stroller.
As I haven’t been on an overseas tour for some time (due to either Julie or I always staying home for James) I’m a bit nervous, which is rather ironic given the job I’m in!
During the walk I will have lots of time in my own space and for reflection, which will be interesting, and it will be about supporting the other team members as well.
I realise I will miss (my son) Jimbob terribly, as it will be the longest period away from him in 25 years.
However it will be chance to acknowledge the great support we’ve had at the Wilson Home, Carlson School, Homai, and the Laura Ferguson Home ... and yeah, I’m looking forward to it.
