The Tree of Life
There is a forest just a fence jump away from our backyard.
This forest is home to many punga trees, native to New Zealand, soon to be destroyed to build a road. For birds like the tui and bellbird, these trees are their home. Driven by my Dad’s love to protect this beautiful tree, he has been rescuing these punga, one by one. This one punga was particularly difficult, and due to its rather large size, we all got in on it.It really amazed me how much effort was put in to save this single tree. It takes seconds to destroy a tree, years to grow, and took just one hour to save this one. My hope is that this story inspires you to look after the nature that already lives in your own backyard.
